Just a day after winning the Stanley Cup in Florida, star Matthew Tkachuk broke an important rule while celebrating with his teammates.
Winning the Stanley Cup has to be one of the greatest feelings on the planet for hockey players. All of that hard work finally paying off by being able to lift the Cup has to be one of the unmatched feelings in the world, but that doesn't mean there aren't rules for when you finally do get your hands on the Cup. Apparently they don't apply to Matthew Tkachuk though.
According to David Dwork of The Hockey News, Matthew Tkachuk had no clue he wasn't supposed to take the Cup in the Atlantic Ocean.
"We had nobody with us to say, Matthew, don't be an idiot.'"
Matthew Tkachuk didn't know it was against the rules to take the Stanley Cup into the ocean. It also wasn't his idea, and he's making sure proper credit is given.

Tkachuk swears up and down he didn't know there was a rule against taking the Stanley Cup into the ocean and in fact, made sure his brother Brady was put in the limelight for giving him the great idea.
Matthew Tkachuk made sure to set the record straight during his official day with the Stanley Cup at the St Louis Children's Hospital.
I did not know that wasn't allowed, I promise you, Tkachuk told KSDK News. It was the day after I won, I still hadn't slept at that point, and it was just me and a few of my teammates. We had nobody with us to say, Matthew, don't be an idiot. Don't do that.' So I thought it was fitting, but if I would have known I wasn't supposed to do it, I wouldn't have done it, but also, I think it's pretty funny
It seems Tkachuk got away with breaking the rules and in the end, it's a rather funny story and will no doubt endear him to the Panthers fans even further.
