The Carolina Hurricanes once again find them on the outside looking in. After another second round exit, this time against the New York Rangers, the team is once again considering their future. Yesterday, news leaked that the team has granted general manager Don Waddell permission to speak to other teams about job openings.
It sounds as if the team is going in a completely new direction. Part of that new direction will likely involve trading young forward Martin Necas who has reportedly requested a trade. According to reports Necas is unhappy with his deployment Carolina and is seeking an opportunity to plan a team who will allow him to play on the top line as well as the team's first power play unit.
Now according to David Pagnotta, six teams have already reached out to the Hurricanes about a potential trade for Necas.
This season in 77 games Necas scored 24 goals and added 29 assists for 53 points. In his career, Necas has played 362 games all with Carolina scoring 97 goals and adding 146 assists.
Necas would be a welcome addition to all of these teams. However, there remains questions as to whether or not he could compete in the type of role he is hoping to be played in. Necas is an restricted free agent this summer and will require a new deal and he is reportedly hoping to be paid handsomely.
