Some sad news to report on in the hockey world on Sunday evening as it's been announced that long-time defenceman and two-time Olympian Leo Insam has passed away at the age of 48.

Insam spent the majority of his 18-year professional career in Italy with Gherdeina, Asiago, Milano and HC Bolzano. He also spent two seasons in Germany with Dusseldorfer EG and one season in Austria with EC-KAC.

On the international stage, Insam represented Italy at six World Championships as well as two Winter Olympics, in 1994 and 1998. He recorded one assist in six career games at the Olympics and five points in 35 World Championship games.

Our thoughts are with Insam's family and friends at this difficult time.
