MAJOR update in Hockey Canada investigation, insider believes no punishments may be given
The players and staff of the 2018 Team Canada World Juniors team have been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The investigation has been in the hands of London Police for months without an update, while the NHL investigation has been done for some time. All the while, players, teams and fans have waited for an update on the situation.
The London Police have shared very few details, while earlier this summer Andy Strickland leaked that he had a list of 5 players expected to be suspended. Now it appears that list may have been a bit of a stretch, because according to Frank Seravalli, the London Police have reportedly had a change in heart.
Frank Seravalli on Oilers Now yesterday said re: Hockey Canada WJC 2018 SA that his understanding is "behind the scenes... what a lot of people seem to be whispering is that the London police service seems to not want to continue any further with their investigation".
In response to whether LDN police will probably end the investigation "That seems to be the thought. They've had enough time to look into this now and haven't really moved the ball down the field. I don't know if that means they haven't received the cooperation that they need or that they don't believe that there's any charges merited. I don't know what the answer is but it's clear to me from talking to people that the league just hasn't really gotten more from the LDN police service. Their own investigation has been more or less done. And they're sitting here waiting saying 'well if we're going to do something we need to all be on the same page' and that hasn't happened yet. "
We are closing in on over 5 years since the incident reportedly happened and now it appears no punishments will be delivered. It's time to either close the book on this investigation completely or release the appropriate details.
