The Vancouver Canucks have been under a cloud of speculation as of late surrounding J.T. Miller, and now Jim Rutherford has set the record straight.
The past few weeks in Vancouver have been very interesting, with injuries and absences alongside a return of Thatcher Demko all leading to the team sitting in fourth place in the Pacific Division.
However, the biggest story of the year has been the absence of veteran J.T. Miller, who was approved for an indefinite leave of time by the team.
The reason that the Canucks gave for this was mental health reasons and Miller needing a reset, while recent speculation from top insiders has revealed that it may have been frustration boiling over with teammates instead that forced the Canucks hand.
Miller recently released a statement ahead of his comeback, and now, President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford has broken his silence as well, standing by the Canucks official reasoning behind Miller's weeks long absence.
He requested the time, and it was for personal reasons ... (About the rumors) Yeah, that's unfortunate, you know, I get it, the world we live in, and the sports world we live in, there's going to be all kinds of rumors, and people make up trade rumors and all these things.
But when a player is in a situation where he's taken a leave for personal reasons, it's very disrespectful for people, without any information, to go off of to start, start some of these rumors. It's really unfortunate," Rutherford said.
It appears as though Rutherford wasn't too happy with the speculation that surrounded Miller, and at least for now, he is sticking to the official story that it was a mental healthy break for the veteran.
That very well may be the case and we may never know if there was more to this story, but for now, Miller is back in the lineup in Vancouver as they look to chase a Stanley Cup, so unless something else changes, everything may be rosy again in Vancouver.
