NHL and Gary Bettman land multi-million dollar partnership that fans will absolutely hate
If there is one thing that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will always do, it's what is best for business. Sometimes that comes at the expense of the enjoyment of the product of fans, but all his ideas ultimately helped align the pockets of ownership. After months of issues with sponsors today, Gary and the NHL landed a major partnership.
Despite fan backlash, the NHL has come to an agreement with BetMGM that will see the NHL featured much more prominently.
«Our partnership extension with the NHL is a winner. It enables us to enhance the BetMGM product and offer our fans unforgettable experiences built around the game they love,» said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt. «The NHL is more thrilling than ever a symphony of athleticism, teamwork, and skill on skates. We look forward to bringing our customers exceptional live experiences and delighting with new in-app content for BetMGM."
This partnership will bring an even bigger focus on the NHL's partnership with gambling websites. Something that fans have been critical of for over a year now. While the league is working harder to increase revenue through gambling, fans have become bothered by the constant advertisements.
Fans have also become extremely critical after Shane Pinto received a 41 game suspension for sports betting. So while the NHL continues to line their pockets and partner with bedding companies, they still implement strict rules for their players. This is something that is likely to become a sticking point in the next collective bargaining agreement.
