Boston Bruins Head Coach Joe Sacco benched Brad Marchand in a recent loss, and now the Bruins captain has taken accountability for the play that led to the decision from Sacco, which drew immense criticism from the fanbase.

Over the weekend, Boston Bruins fans were in disbelief as Joe Sacco benched their captain during what would become a dramatic 6-5 defeat at the hands of their Atlantic Division rival the Ottawa Senators.

This had many Boston Bruins fans calling for Sacco to be fired, but unsurprisingly, Marchand has now taken accountability for his play leading up to the decision from his Head Coach during his media availability on Monday.

«He's going to make decisions based on how he feels each guy is playing each night. I get it. Next time, I need to do better.»

Up to that point, Marchand was a -1 with no points in the game, and while he wasn't playing great, he wasn't playing bad enough to be benched either, with Sacco likely just looking to send a message to a team that has failed to fire as of late.

Although Marchand could have taken this very differently, he's decided to take responsibility for his play rather than blaming his Head Coach, which is a very good way to not lose the locker room, an especially wise move given the struggles that this team have been through in 2024/25.

With Marchand a free agent in the upcoming off-season however, we will see how this effects him when push comes to shove in negotiations with Boston, because while he may be saying all the right things with the Bruins in the thick of a Wild Card race, this mistreatment may come back to haunt this team eventually.
