Jeremy Swayman was on the losing end of an 8-1 result against the Winnipeg Jets, but now Bruins captain Brad Marchand has stood up for his goaltender.
After a less than stellar start for the Boston Bruins this season, the team had seemingly turned things around, winning four straight games as they headed into a road clash with the Winnipeg Jets.
Unfortunately, that game turned into utter chaos at the end, and after it all, the team came out the other side as 8-1 losers.
There were many questions to be answered after the game, and despite doubts over Jeremy Swayman in net, Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has stood up for him, noting that the entire team was at fault for the loss, rather than singling out the goaltender.
«Everyone had a bad night. [Jeremy Swayman] was part of it,» Brad Marchand stated, via Boston.com. «He's not singled out. I don't think anyone can look themselves in the mirror and say that they had a good game. So, he's part of the group. He's part of the bad loss.»
Unfortunately, Swayman hasn't been at his best after signing a huge deal in the off-season, posting an .885 save percentage through 21 games played, and after the defeat, he admitted that he needs to be better.
«Some of the goals that I let in, I know I can stop them,» Swayman said. «And that's something that I hold myself as a standard, and when you let those in, it's not a great feeling. I want to make sure that that doesn't happen again and staying sharp and playing my game. I know I can stop those goals.»
Given the production we've seen in the past from Swayman, there's reason for optimism in Boston, but if he sees another game or two like this, it's safe to say that the pressure and frustration could ultimately reach a boiling point in Boston.
