The price to acquire Boston Bruins restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman is expected to be astronomically high if they decide to trade him.

With a brand new season getting underway here in North America just a couple of days, there's excitement around the league, however, it's likely quite tense in Boston amid the Jeremy Swayman situation.

Swayman became a restricted free agent back on July 1st and as of October 6th, remains unsigned by the Boston Bruins. The temperature was turned up last week when the Boston Bruins offer to Jeremy Swayman was leaked in the media that he'd have 64 million reasons why he'd be playing right now, hinting at the number the team may have offered Jeremy Swayman.

Swayman and his camp weren't happy with Neely's comments, with his agent releasing a statement saying that they'd be taking the next few days to evaluate their options going forward.

One direction this could head in the near future is a trade, something that Swayman's camp may be open to at this point. Last week, Elliotte Friedman shared that Swayman and his camp were considering requesting a trade.

According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, if the Boston Bruins were to look at trade options for the netminder, the price would be quite high and along with that, the acquiring team would still need to sign him, something not many teams around the National Hockey League have the cap space to do.

"The Bruins would set the bar high. Not only that, an acquiring team would have to meet Swayman's price, which he would be unlikely to decrease. Giving Swayman an eight-year, $76 million deal, for example, would smash the league's current market for restricted free agent goalies. Whether any team would be willing to take that step is unknown." Shinzawa said.

This situation hasn't been handled well by the Boston Bruins whatsoever. The team ended the 2023-24 season with the best goaltending tandem in the National Hockey League with Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman and now, there's a chance the latter could be on his way out as well. With Ullmark dealt to Ottawa and Swayman without a contract, the Bruins will start the season on Tuesday against Florida with Joonas Korpisalo as their number 1 netminder, something nobody could've predicted.
