The hockey world is in mourning once again with the news that Russian defenceman Yegor Sorokin has passed away at the age of twenty-seven.

Some sad news to report today after the hockey world learned of the tragic passing of former Russian defender Yegor Sorokin whose life was cut short at the tender young age of 27.

Sorokin played five years in Russia's MHL with Yekaterinburg Auto Jr, Nizhnekamsk Reaktor, Volzhsk & Ufa Tolpar participating in 205 games. During that time the 6-foot defenceman had 55 points including back-to-back twenty-assist seasons. In Russia's VHL Sorokin played in 91 games for Volzhsk Ariada-Akpars, Perm Molot-Prikamye, Uchaly Gornyak & Samara CSK VVS. He contributed with 4 goals to go along with five assists between 2016-2021.

Far too often we hear about the passing of persons who have been taken from us far too soon by circumstances beyond anyone's control. While this is another sad example, the hope is that Yegor's short life can be celebrated for not only the hockey player he was but the person he was as well because the game and chasing a dream were just a small part of who Yegor was.

Those of us at Blade of Steel would like to send out our deepest and heartfelt condolences to those that Yegor touched including teammates, family, friends, coaches and fans. May Yegor's memory live on forever.

it seems as though the passing of younger hockey players is happening more and more. That is something no family, friend or community member should have to deal with, but it's the state we live in at the moment. This will never not be a difficult thing to see and deal with.
