Brad Marchand had a tough summer this offseason. After another disappointing elimination in the second round of the playoffs at the hands of the Florida Panthers, he took some vacations. Still, he had to undergo elbow, groin, and abdominal surgeries to be ready for the start of the 2024-25 NHL season. He showed a lot of courage and leadership by doing all he could to return to the game and help his teammates have a strong start to the season.
In six games this season, Marchand showed that he can still help the Bruins, as he scored four points in the Bruins' 3-2-1 record so far. However, last night, he made a mistake that cost the Bruins their fourth win of the year.
Indeed, in a game against the Utah Hockey Club last night, Marchand created a turnover at Utah's blue line. Utah HC took control of the puck and scored right away.
When he returned to the bench, a pissed Jim Montgomery welcomed him. The coach shouted at him and even gave him a tap on the shoulder.
Eventually, the goal was overturned by the referees for an offside, but Montgomery didn't care. No coaches want to see their star players making such mistakes.
Watch how it all went down in the following video:
The Utah Hockey Club ended up winning the game 2-1, and Brad Marchand scored an assist on the Bruins' only goal of the night.
Set to be back in action against the Nashville Predators next Tuesday, the Bruins will look to bounce back from this tough loss. Marchand will surely make sure to avoid repeating the same mistake as he looks to get the best possible contract offer from Boston next summer.
