Over the weekend, it was reported that the Carolina Hurricanes were considering a major logo and jersey change, and if you believed those designs were awful, you haven't seen anything yet.
Fast forward to today, their marketing department released a tweet with a jersey design they have branded «vintage» and you have to see them to believe how awful they are, have a look:
It was later clarified in another tweet by the @The_JerseyNerds that the sweaters are not alternate sweaters but in fact vintage-inspired specialty jerseys that were designed solely for fan purchase and will not be worn in game or on ice. The jerseys in question celebrate the connections to the region and team itself.
Over the history of the National Hockey League teams have had a history of releasing sweaters they in fact have not used on ice and it has mostly worked out. The sweaters the Hurricanes have released have in fact sold out. Fans will always have a difference of opinion on things of this nature when it comes to their favourite hockey team but as the saying goes, if it sells than why not?
