The Seattle Kraken are going to be holding Brandon Tanev out of tonight's game to ensure he doesn't get injured, as the plan is for him to be traded by tomorrow.

Brandon Tanev will not be playing tonight when his Seattle Kraken take on the Nashville Predators, as NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported he will be held out for health protection reasons.

This all but signals the end of his time in Seattle, as he is almost certainly being traded by tomorrow's deadline.

Tanev has played in 60 games for the Kraken so far this season, scoring nine goals and adding eight assists, for a total of 17 points. He does have a plus/minus rating of -12, but on a struggling Kraken squad, that was pretty much expected.

Tanev is considered to be one of the best examples of a player not getting drafted and carving out a solid NHL career. Tanev was not even drafted to the OHL, either, and ultimately took two years off from hockey after spending a year playing U-18 AAA.

He ended up signing with the OJHL's Markham Waxers in 2010-11 and put up just under one point per game.

Two years later, he'd end up in college, where he began to show just how hard of a worker he could be, which really got the attention of NHL clubs.

The Kraken were also involved in a blockbuster trade yesterday

Seattle made a huge splash on Wednesday afternoon, acquiring a handful of picks in a three-team deal that sent veteran Yanni Gourde and Oliver Bjorkstrand to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Kraken have a 26-32-4 record with 56 points, 11 behind Calgary for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference, ultimately leaving them no choice but to be sellers at this year's deadline.
