Corey Perry explains his heated discussion with teammate Evander Kane
Corey Perry of the Edmonton Oilers has attempted to shed some light on his heated discussion with Edmonton Oilers teammate Evander Kane over the weekend.
With the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Calgary Flames Saturday night, tensions were high as the two rivals faced off in a game that was far more important for the Oilers. At one point, there was a scrum at one end of the ice, and Corey Perry came back to the bench hot. After yelling in the direction of the ice for a bit, Perry then turned and yelled at teammate Evander Kane. Kane said some words back, and Perry reacted without even looking at him.
Asked about what happened today, Perry said teammates fight, that's just the way it is.
"Brothers fight, it's just trying to bring out the best in everybody. It's not uncommon. You come in here, you probably see a little bit more, but the cameras caught it and we moved on. We talked about it, apologized and that's it.
"That's what makes a team work, that's how you win. You hold everybody accountable, you push everybody's buttons. You do whatever you have to do to get the best out of everybody." - Sportsnet.ca Kane didn't seem too broken up about it either, simply mentioning that he and Perry are partners in the team's Masters Pool.
With Edmonton gearing up to go into the post season, this is the type of intensity you want from your players. Like him or not, Corey Perry knows how to win, and how to leave everything on the ice in pursuit of the Stanley Cup.
