Insider shares what salary Draisaitl & McDavid could earn on next contracts
An insider has shared what salary Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid could be looking at on their next contracts.
The next 12 months are going to be very important for the Edmonton Oilers when it comes to locking up their two stars - Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Draisaitl became eligible to sign an extension back on July 1st, while McDavid will be able to as of Canada Day 2025.
There's no doubt this will be the biggest contract of their respective careers thus far and many have been wonder what salary the duo could be looking at on their next deals, especially considering the growth in their game over the last five years.
In a recent appearance on the Oilers Now podcast, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff shared some information into what salary Draisaitl and McDavid could earn, combined, on their next contract.
Seravalli said that there's more than a 90 percent chance that Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid are locked up to contracts that'll see them make less than or close to $30 million USD combined per season.
Even with the salary going up, if Draisaitl and McDavid get somewhere between $28 and $30 million combined per season, it would be a huge chunk of Edmonton's cap, but it would be well worth it for the Oilers given the level these two are on right now and will continue to be for the next several years. There's no slowing down Draisaitl and McDavid and it's safe to assume that both will be 100+ point players on a yearly basis well into their late 30s.
The current expectation is that the Edmonton Oilers would like to get Leon Draisaitl's contract extension done very soon, potentially before the start of training camp and it'll be interesting to see how much he'll earn annually on his new deal. It'll also be a benchmark of sorts for Connor McDavid because he'll likely get at least a couple million more per season than his teammate.
