The Edmonton Oilers have had a very clear hole on their blue line for the past few years now, and after failing to fill that void over the summer, they've now landed a very intriguing veteran.
According to insider Elliotte Friedman, the veteran defenseman has inked a deal with Edmonton, and when he gets up to speed, he'll likely pair with Darnell Nurse on the teams second pairing.
In his prime with the Dallas Stars, Klingberg was an All-Star caliber defenseman, but after struggling with injuries in recent years, many believed that his NHL career could have potentially been over.
However, at 32-years of age, it appears he's still got plenty of gas left in the tank, and after scoring a combined 33 points in his last fully healthy season in 2022/23, he's still got the ability to be a difference maker.
With Evan Bouchard and Mattias Ekholm leading the way, Edmonton may now have one of the better defensive units in the NHL, as they already ranked eighth in the league with an impressive 2.73 GAA.
Last season with Toronto, Klingberg tallied five points in 14 games played before a hip injury ended his campaign, but after working hard following no deal in free agency, he now believes he can be back to 100% and contribute again at the NHL level.
Only time will tell if this was a good deal for the Edmonton Oilers, but at a cheap price point, it's definitely worth the risk to bring Klingberg in as they look to go one step further than they did a season ago and claim a Stanley Cup victory.
