Possible Suspension Looming for Maxim Tsyplakov as NHL DoPS Announce a Disciplinary Hearing
A possible suspension could be looming for Maxim Tsyplakov as the Department of Player Safety announced a disciplinary hearing for a hit on Ryan Poehling.
Last night, the Philadelphia Flyers were in Long Island to face the New York Islanders in a Metropolitan Division matchup.
John Tortorella and his men ended up winning 5-3 against Patrick Roy's team, marking the Flyers' third win in the last four games.
The Flyers bounced back after a tough first period, where the New York Islanders scored the first goal and the forward Ryan Poehling was injured less than 10 minutes into the game.
Indeed, he was severely hit by the Islanders' Russian forward Maxim Tsyplakov in an attempt to make his way to the net with the puck.
Check out how it went down:
In breaking news, the Department of Player Safety decided to summon him to a hearing for his hit:
This announcement surprised many people, as we can see that Tsyplakov hit Poehling on the shoulder before hitting his head. Some experts even called the incident a "clean hit":
On the play, the referees didn't even give him a penalty after reviewing the hit.
After the game, Tortorella opened up on the hit, saying that his team came back stronger in the second to rally for their fallen teammate:
"I thought the whole situation gives you a chance to galvanize with one another. They were concerned about Poehling. Everybody was. That's the way the group is. We have struggles. We did some dumb things tonight at certain times, but it's a good group. And when those types of situations arise, that's when they pull together."
It's very unusual to see the DoPS holding hearings for clean hits. Fans and experts are eagerly waiting to get an official explanation from the league after they announce their verdict.
