This season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have dealt with plenty of injury and inconsistency issues, and on Sunday, they announced another shocking absence from the team.
According to Head Coach Mike Sullivan, forward Michael Bunting will be out of the lineup for their clash with the Tampa Bay Lightning, as he was shockingly involved in a car accident outside PPG Paints Arena.
Thankfully, it appears as though everyone involved will be okay, so while Bunting will be out of the lineup on Sunday, there appears to be no long-term ramifications for the gritty forward.
Details were kept under wraps about what could have been a very serious situation, but with everyone involved seemingly suffering no long-term injuries, this is a positive outcome for a very scary situation.
It's unclear if we'll ever find out who was at fault and exactly what happened, but with Bunting at 100% and no other serious injuries for the other people involved, this was a very lucky escape.
This comes around the same time that Pittsburgh placed veteran star Evgeni Malkin on Injured Reserve, and after a 5-0 shutout loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, this makes the back-to-back against the Lightning a very tough situation.
Ultimately though, this could have been much, much worse for Bunting, who has a solid 13 goals and 25 points in 43 games played this season, but as of right now he's seemingly okay, and could be back in the Penguins lineup sometime during the upcoming week.
