Quinton Byfield of the Los Angeles Kings has reached an agreement with the team for a five-year contract extension that carries a huge raise
The LA Kings have decided they don't want to wait to sign their young budding star after a breakout season in 2023-24. The team has singed 21-year-old Quinton Byfield to a five-year extension worth a total of $31.25 million in total.
"The @LAKings have signed forward Quinton Byfield to a five-year contract extension worth an average annual value (AAV) of $6,250,000 through the 2028-29 season."
Byfield, drafted second overall in 2021, scored 20 goals and 55 points in 80 games with the Kings last season, career highs across the board. He added another four assists in five playoffs games. As Frank Seravalli points out, it's an interesting deal for both sides.
"LA Kings sign Quinton Byfield: 5 years x $6.25 million.
Byfield gets $31.25 million in security, plus a mid-term deal to cash in bigger next time around. Intriguing deal for both sides. Eight years would have been quite expensive."
The Kings are hoping even bigger things are coming from the young forward. Byfield certainly looks capable after his stats in 2023-24. Byfield was a restricted free agent at the time this new deal was signed, coming off an entry-level contract that carried a base salary of $775,000.
