For weeks now, Chris Kreider has been involved in trade speculation, but now an insider with The Athletic has revealed it's likely that he'll remain a Ranger.
The New York Rangers have been in a major downfall over the last month, and now the team find themselves on the outside looking in at the Stanley Cup Playoffs race in the Eastern Conference.
The team have already moved Jacob Trouba and Kaapo Kakko, but this downfall all started with the rumours surrounding Chris Kreider, with many believing that he's still on the way out.
Now, Arthur Staple of The Athletic has a different take on the future of Kreider, revealing that the longest tenured Ranger may ultimately end his career in New York.
"Unless Drury is adamant about moving on from the closest thing the Rangers have to a lifer - which would mean essentially dumping Kreider for little return, since there's probably not a robust market for a 33-year-old who's got two years at $6.5 million left - then I think Kreider stays."
That isn't a firm take however, as Staple notes that if his play gets worse this season, the Rangers may have no choice but to move him as they look to shake up the lineup for a Stanley Cup run in 2024/25.
"If things continue to deteriorate this season Kreider's spot may change, but for now, he definitely wants to be here forever"
After posting 127 goals over the past three seasons, Kreider has started slow in 2024/25, tallying just 11 goals and 12 points through 29 games, and his lack of production has been a major issue for this team.
For now though, New York will stick by the player that debuted for them way back in 2011/12, and while there's potential for a move, the prevailing opinion is that he won't be traded anytime soon.
