New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils Show Off Heated Animosity Towards Each Other During Preason Game
The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils showed off their bitter rivalry during preseason as if they were in regular season form or fighting for a game-seven win.
The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils showed off their bitter rivalry tonight at Madison Square Garden. It may have been a preseason game but the players let their emotions get the best of them, which led to two fights in the first period.
The first fight occurred just over the ten-minute mark in the fight period. Rangers forward Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Devils defenceman Jackson van de Leest dropped the gloves in a spirited fight. The Devils defenceman used his 6'6 frame to land some nice uppercuts, winning the fight.
Veteran Sam Carrick would get into a shoving match with Rangers defenceman Connor Mackey which eventually led to the pair dropping the gloves. Carrick was responding to a hit that Mackey delivered on him. This fight wasn't as entertaining as the earlier one with both struggling to get many shots off before falling to the ice.
The fistta cuffs would continue just five minutes into the second period. Rangers defenceman Conner Mackey got into a tussle with Devils forward Nathan Legare. Mackey would get in a few more shots than his first fight of the evening.
Of all the combatants who fought so far, Carrick is the only NHL regular. Rangers Mackey has a chance of playing games this year as a depth option.
It has been a heated preseason game so far between the two Metro division rivals. The score is tied 2-2 midway through the second period.
During the final meeting between these two teams last season a line brawl happened which resulted in eight ejections. These two franchises have heated animosity no matter if it's regular season or preseason hockey.
