Despite facing plenty of games on the sidelines in his NHL career thus far, Matt Rempe isn't showing any signs of changing his game, as he laid out another brutal high hit this past week.
While that style of play hasn't made him very popular among other players around the league, it's given him plenty of confidence, and that was on show in the New York Rangers latest matchup with the Washington Capitals.
The story in Washington thus far in 2024/25 has been Alex Ovechkin's race for the NHL's all-time goal scoring record, and after breaking his leg earlier in the season, teammates have become even more protective of him.
That showed when Tom Wilson threatened Rempe, telling him to not hit Ovi in a situation that appeared to get quite heated between the two heavyweights, to which Rempe responded in very unsurprising fashion.
After this however, the two shared very little ice time together, and with a goal, Ovechkin closed the gap on Wayne Gretzky's record to just nine, with No. 8 now needing just 10 goals to cement himself in NHL history.
Now, in Ovechkin's quest to make history, the Capitals and the Rangers will not meet again in the regular season, and while it's a risk anytime an NHL player steps on the ice against their opposition, Wilson and the Great 8 have no more need to worry about Rempe as the countdown to NHL history continues.
