The Vancouver Canucks appear to be listening to offers on J.T. Miller, and now we know of a huge deal they turned down from New York earlier in the season.
After a strong start to the season, things in Vancouver have been very rocky as of late, with details emerging of the public feud between superstars J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, which has rocked the organization in the public eye and behind the scenes.
All of this has led to plenty of trade speculation surrounding both players, with the New York Rangers emerging as the favourite to land Miller, who is reportedly the top target of GM Chris Drury.
Now, new details have emerged on a potential trade between the two teams, with Josh Yohe of The Athletic reporting that the two teams talked about a deal earlier in the season, with Vancouver turning down an offer of a one-for-one deal with struggling star Mika Zibanejad.
"Speaking of Vancouver, there is plenty of chatter out there about Pittsburgh-area native J.T. Miller," Yohe wrote, "Earlier this season, the Rangers offered struggling center Mika Zibanejad to Vancouver in return for Miller.
The Canucks turned down the offer. It's no secret that the Rangers are very interested in Miller, who was drafted by New York in 2011 and played his first six NHL seasons there."
Obviously, Patrik Allvin and the Canucks front office see much more value in Miller than to accept a deal for another bloated contract in Zibanejad, but the fact that talks got this far shows just how close Vancouver could be to trading their veteran.
Ultimately though, it's going to take a much bigger offer to pry him away from the Canucks, with Miller reportedly committed to the team long-term, but if a deal comes along that they can't turn down, don't be shocked to see him moved.
