The 23-year-old forward is making his debut for the Kraken tonight in Chicago as the team visits the Blackhawks.
It is a quick turnaround for the Finnish forward, as he was just traded last night.
The trade came just days after Kakko expressed his frustration with head coach Peter Laviolette.
Naturally, this lead to many rumors as to why he was actually moved. One popular theory is that it was a punishment for speaking out against the veteran bench boss.
Kakko addressed these rumors himself this morning. He said that he knew the team had to make a move and knew it could be him.
He felt like he would likely get traded because the team never used him on special teams so he is easily replaceable.
These are all fair points. Hopefully he will find himself in a better situation in Seattle where he could get some powerplay time and perhaps more 5 on 5 time as well.
Ahead of tonight's game, he did say that he is excited for this new opportunity and trusts that his game will impress his new coaches.
It should be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out for the former 2nd overall pick.
His underlying numbers were among the best on the Rangers despite the trade, so hopefully he will be able to carry that with him to Seattle.
