Max Pacioretty, a National Hockey League veteran of just north of 900 games came to the Toronto Maple Leafs on a PTO hoping to extend his career a little longer after missing almost half a season's worth of games in each of the previous four seasons. Now he's speaking out about how special the group he's been sharing the ice with the last few weeks has been.
Pacioretty revealed some rather spectacular observations from someone who has played against the core group for many years and has had battles with them as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes & Washington Capitals.
In his comments, Pacioretty expressed that this group(the Toronto Maple Leafs) has been the hardest group he's been a part of. Alluding to the fact that Auston Matthews along with William Nylander & DD John Tavares all share the same hard-nosed work ethic and that they're going 100% at all times.
Understanding and appreciating each of the core along with Pacioretty are all veterans, the indictment coming from him of high praise is something to marvel at if you're a Maple Leafs fan. The fact of the matter is that because the thirty-five-year-old from New Canaan. CT has been around the block more than a few times playing for five different teams, he's seen some things and his opinion about what he's experienced at this camp and during his time with Toronto should matter and hopefully excite some die-hards.
While it's an entirely too small sample size to determine long-term success, this version of the team feels different. Whether they're built for success and primed to do so is obviously unknown, but if the 900-game veteran feels excited to get it going, fans and the like should feel the same way. Only time will tell.
