The Vancouver Canucks organization has been a mess as of late, and after their latest loss on Thursday to the Edmonton Oilers, things are not going well.
The Canucks now sit three points out of a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, and with J.T. Miller's future in the organization completely up in the air, we could see some major changes soon.
One change that Elliotte Friedman would like to see is more protection for captain Quinn Hughes, as he was roughed up by Corey Perry on Thursday night, with the NHL's top insider calls for the team to better protect their captain.
The play involving Perry was during a scrum near the boards, as the veteran forward took Hughes to the ice, with a play that looked very ugly when Hughes went down head first as Canucks fans on social media called out the play.
While it's certainly not the worst play we've ever seen, given what a superstar Hughes is on the ice, it's safe to say that his teammates need to do a much better job at protecting him, as he's been by far and away their best players this season.
The Canucks have big, physical bodies on the ice such as Vincent DeSharnais, Keifer Sherwood and Tyler Myers, but at this point in time there's simply no aggressiveness to back up their captain, and unless something changes, they may ultimately miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024/25.
