In late April, the Jets saw their season come to an end at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche, who defeated Winnipeg in five games in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That series loss to the Avalanche will likely force the Jets to make some changes this off-season and trading a key player could become a possibility.
According to Murat Ates of The Athletic, Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers is on the trade block and General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will shop the Danish forward ahead of the Entry Draft late next month
Ehlers, 28, has one more year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $6 million. His contract also includes a modified no-trade clause with a ten-team no trade list, which could complicate things for the Jets.
Later in his article on The Athletic, Murat Ates shared six teams that could be potential landing spots for Nikolaj Ehlers. Those teams are - Ottawa, Utah, Carolina, Buffalo, Detroit and Pittsburgh.
There will be plenty of interest in Nikolaj Ehlers over the coming weeks and ahead of the Entry Draft in June. Ehlers is a solid player and is capable of playing in a top-six role and can put up 20+ goals every season. While he has struggled in the playoffs, Ehlers may just need a change of scenery to get him going at the most important time of year.
