Jonah Gadjovich and Zack MacEwen weren't messing around tonight as they held a discussion during warmups and then dropped the gloves the first chance they got.
With the Ottawa Senators in Miami to face the Florida Panthers tonight, the Sens MacEwen met his former teammate Jonah Gadjovich at centre ice during warmups. While it's hard to know for sure, it's a safe bet the decision to fight was made there and then, as soon as the two hit the ice at the same time. It didn't take long for that to happen. The fight wasn't long, but both guys managed to get some pretty good jabs in before MacEwen fell and the officials stepped in. MacEwen got to his feet quickly and still wanted to go, but the two linesmen had already stepped in.
Steve Warne, who covers the Ottawa Senators for The Hockey News, felt Gadjovich started swinging too early.
"For a scrap they obviously had planned before the game, I thought Gadjovich could have done a better job to let MacEwen get set. He came in swinging. #GoSensGo."
MacEwen and Gadjovich played together with the Vancouver Canucks in 2020-21.
