It was no secret when the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators that he had struggled with injuries for some time and although he played well during his first season as a Leaf, albeit, in a year marred by injuries once again, everyone knew coming into this season he likely wouldn't play, but it looks like the come back from his injury woes is on.
Murray was just assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on a conditioning stint after undergoing Bilateral Hip surgery and sat down with The Athletic to discuss his road back; take a look.
Despite reports, Murray never left the Maple Leafs and his stall in the locker room was still occupied by him even though he wasn't playing. He would also attend meetings and be around the team after wins among other thing.
Murray felt as though his body was letting him down for a long time prior to undergoing hip surgery and it has taken him a lot of time to be able to trust his body again enough to return to the net.
Lost in all of this was the passing of Murray's father, which took him a long time to get past.
Let's hope Murray is able to return to form and help the Leafs at some point this season, it would be nothing short of amazing. Definitely a feel good story of the season.
