12-year old killed during hockey practice after being struck by puck (Video)
Vsevolod Malkov was just a regular 12-year-old enrolled in SKA St. Petersburg, KHL Training Program. The young player loved hockey and playing the sport as often as possible. Tragically at practice on Thursday Malkov was struck in the chest with a puck, which ultimately led to his passing.
The incident occured on a harmless looking play. A defender from the opposing practice squad took a point shot that struck Malkov in the chest. Malkov doubled over in pain before falling to the ice. Malkov was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save him.
Sport24.ru has reported that, Vsevolod Malkov was struck in the heart area causing the damage.
Below is the video of the incident.
A criminal investigation had been opened into the incident, but no charges are expected. Vsevolod's father shared the following:
I do not see any culprits in this, to blame someone, I think, makes no sense. This was purely an accident. It was a common practice, they were playing a minority: five to attack, four to defend. There was a shot, a defenseman's flick from the blue line, as I was told, I was not present, because parents are not allowed to practice. The puck hit the heart area and there was a cardiac arrest. Further there was resuscitation, but, unfortunately, without success.
The hockey school has offered to pay for funeral services and support for the family.
