After being sent down by the Detroit Red Wings, Jakub Vrana's time in North America may be running out
Things do not seem to be getting any better for forward Jakub Vrana. After a bit of a surprise demotion by the Red Wings, Vrana has been skating with the Red Wings farm club the Grand Rapids Griffins.
This would be Vrana's time to get his game sorted out and perhaps gain some confidence. Well, that doesn't seem to be working either. Vrana has one assist and is a minus six in six games played. The Griffin's were so unenthused about Vrana's play that he has been a healthy scratch for two consecutive games.
Vrana is quickly starting to run out of chances playing professional hockey. We know it hasn't been any easy year for Vrana since he entered the league's substance abuse program. Now that he's returned he appears to have fallen way behind. It's hard to know if it's his conditioning, not playing for a long time, or his attitude, that has caused his play to drop so significantly.
It's too bad for the Red Wings. They really could have used some depth and scoring at the forward position and Vrana has not helped fill that void. It really wasn't too long ago that Vrana played a significant role in helping the Washington Capitals win the Stanley Cup.
Let's hope Vrana can re-establish himself at some point before he is permanently out of professional hockey in North America. It sure seems like he doesn't have too much time left.
