Akim Aliu in partnership with Uninterrupted Canada will be producing a new documentary on the history of Black Hockey, from the CHL of the Maritimes to the modern-day NHL.

Aliu will be producing the documentary with LeBron James and Drake, with its the intention to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The documentary will be called "BLACK ICE" which will work with "hockey for all" to drive diversity, inclusion, and equity in the sport.

Scotiabank is leveraging this initiative through cultural and financial means, and Black Ice is another means of exploring the role of race in the game of hockey.

"At Scotiabank, we want our hockey for all initiative to ignite the conversation around diversity and equity in hockey in order to encourage positive change, and make the game more welcoming and inclusive," said Laura Curtis Ferrara, Chief Marketing Officer at Scotiabank. "We are thrilled to partner with UNINTERRUPTED Canada as the Presenting Sponsor of BLACK ICE to help share the stories of a community that is so often overlooked in the history of the game."

Aliu who blew the whistle on Bill Peters' treatment of NHLers has helped to found the Hockey Diversity Alliance whose founders includes: Akim Aliu (Chair), Evander Kane, Trevor Daley, Anthony Duclair, Matt Dumba, Nazem Kadri, Wayne Simmonds, Chris Stewart, and Joel Ward.

The documentary's distribution will be handled by Elevation Pictures in Canada. Bell Media will handle tv distribution in Canada on multiple networks such as TSN, Crave, and CTV.

Aliu is named as associate producer on the project.
