Phil Kessel faced a lot of uncertainty this off-season. After becoming a free agent Kessel was getting anxious as the days turned to weeks. Then Kessel was finally signed by the Vegas Golden Knights.

Kessel had been rumored to possibly be heading to either the Edmonton Oilers or Calgary Flames. That was until the Golden Knight's and General Manager Kelly McCrimmon upped their offer and signed Kessel to a one-year contract worth $1,500,000 for the season.

Kessel played the past three seasons in the desert for the Arizona Coyotes. While Kessel isn't the player he once was he will likely still be able to contribute. Especially in an environment like Las Vegas.

During his introduction press conference Kessel took a light shot at the Coyotes:

It's going to be nice playing on a team that wants to win.

Kessel knows how to win, most recently winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016-17 before being traded to the Coyotes.

McCrimmon signed Kessel to a very low risk high reward situation. The Golden Knights missed the playoffs for the first time in their existence this past season Kessel is hoping to help them get back to it this year.
