According to Kevin Weekes of ESPN, the NHL network and TSN, Philly have offered the job to none other than John Tortorella as their new head coach. It looks like the details of the contract are still being worked on.
Torts has been out of the coaching game for a while, he hasn't coached since being fired by the Columbus Blue Jackets in early May last year. Although it's officially listed that the two sides mutually parted ways.
Torts has quite the resume, 2004 Stanley Cup Champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning, most wins all-time by an American head coach, and of course his infamous sound bites and trouble with the media.
I wonder if the hard-style, my way or the highway kind of approach he has to coaching will be what the Flyers need to right the ship, or if it will take the young, rebuilding Flyers deeper into the hole that is the basement on the eastern conference. Torts historically doesn't have an an amazing track record with teams that are in the middle of a rebuild.
Time will tell, but, John Tortorella is back behind an NHL bench.
