Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson has had his name heating up in the rumor mill the last few weeks. The Athletic reported that Gibson has not told the Ducks that he hasn't asked for a trade, but didn't deny being open to one. But it's pretty clear when there's this much smoke to the rumors there is usually fire.

Gibson's name carries a lot of weight around the league and that makes sense considering between the 2015 and 2018 seasons, he had a save percentage of .920 or better every year. He was a perennial all-star on a team that was competitive.

The 39th pick in 2011 has had his game slump to average over the last few seasons. While his career save percentage is up at .915, he hasn't had a single season over .905 since 2018/19. Now, part of that is due to the fact that the Ducks are in the bottom third of the league in shots against, scoring chances against, and high-danger chances against in that span but there are people around the league who believe that Gibson has lost a step.

The soon to be 29 year old has a ten-team no-trade list in his contract. He's an American-born player, it's fair to expect that some Canadian teams may be on that list.

Mark Spector reports that Gibson has the Oilers on his no trade list.

Gibson has five more years on a contract that carries an AAV of $6.4 million.

The Oilers may have to overpay the top UFA goalies like Darcy Kuemper, Jack Campbell, and Ville Husso to compete with the market.
