Much like other veterans at the end of their career in the NHL, another journeyman forward has failed his physical.

Andrew Ladd has been in the NHL since 2005, starting his career with the Carolina Hurricanes has played in Chicago, Atlanta, Winnipeg and New York.

Ladd won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010, and in his 16 years in the NHL played 1,001 games spread across 6 franchises. Ladd has put up 256 goals and 294 assists, for a total of 550 points in his career.

This is bad news for Lou Lamiorello and the New York Islanders:

Ladd was traded along with a 2nd round pick in 2021, a 2nd round pick in 2022, and a conditional 3rd round selection in 2023. If Ladd decided to retire or ended up playing this season, it would've meant that the Islanders kept their 2023 third-round pick. That's because the conditions of the 2023 3rd-round pick were that the pick would be transferred to Arizona only if Ladd does not play professional games this season and doesn't retire. It appears that is exactly what is going to happen.

Ladd hit 1,000 games in April 2022, versus his one of his old teams, the Chicago Blackhawks.

During his time in Arizona, Ladd played 51 games with 7 goals and 5 assists, in a bottom-six and special teams role.

"I'm really proud to be able to play 1,000 games," said Ladd. "I was sitting in Bridgeport a couple years ago with this goal in mind to get back to playing NHL games again and ultimately hitting this milestone. To finally be here and see all that hard work and time that I put into getting back into this spot so I could have this opportunity is fulfilling to say the least."
