Avs swing another trade this time with a Central Division rival
On Tuesday Joe Sakic and the Avs followed up the Josh Manson acquisition by trading former 10th overall selection in the 2016 NHL draft Tyson Jost to the Minnesota Wild for the undrafted Nico Sturm.
Jost, 24, has 45 goals and 103 points in 321 NHL games and carries a cap hit of $2 million through 2022-23. Meanwhile Sturm has 9 goals and 17 points in 53 games with the Wild. He is a pending UFA this summer with a cap hit or $750,000.
Avs GM Joe Sakic said this about Sturm:
«Nico is a big, strong forward who also brings a heavy defensive presence. He is a defensive minded forward who can chip in offensively, is good on draws and contribute on the penalty kill.»
This trade clears just under $1.3 million of cap space for the Avalanche, who will continue to be busy leading up to the March 21st Deadline.
