The Blackhawks made quite a few offseason moves and bringing in Fleury was what they believed the final piece of the puzzle to bring the Hawks back to the Stanley Cup calibre team they were for many years.
Well, currently sitting near the bottom of the Central division, it looks like a lot more pieces were needed. Fleury being on the final year of a contract and not being a young buck anymore, at the age of 37 he does not have many years left to be wearing an NHL uniform. It only makes sense for the Blackhawks to trade him to a contender for a chance to chase his 4th stanley cup.
While he is rumoured to have shut down offers from the Washington Capitals already as he does not want to be on the other side of the Pittsburgh/Washington rivalry, he also had quite a few other teams interested.
We also heard recently that he made the decision that he would like to remain a Blackhawk for the remainder of the season. But with only a 10-team No-trade-clause if the Blackhawks find one of the 22 other teams not on his list that want his services and offer a good deal, we could still see Fleury in another uniform this season.
A quick Marc-Andre Fleury update...
1) Very good source told me earlier today that Fleury doesn't want to be traded out of Chicago
2) Very good source told me tonight that Fleury will be traded.
Now I'm a little confused - but the don't Leafs have to be asking about him? steve simmons (@simmonssteve) March 6, 2022
