It appears the Penguins may have dodged a bullet as Jake Guentzel appears to be fine after what could have been a very significant loss to the team. The incident happened during the 3rd period of Friday's game between the Penguins and Blue Jackets. The Penguins fan base would collectively gasp as Oliver Bjorkstrand would send Guentzel crashing hard into the Blue Jacket's net.
What caught everyone's attention though was how quickly Blue Jackets goaltender, Elvis Merzlikins would check on Guentzel. Elvis immediately checked on Guentzel to ensure the star forward was alright. After confirming that he wasn't injured, Merzlikins would give Guentzel a pat on the back before retrieving his helmet for him.
Bjorkstrand was given a 2-minute penalty on the play for roughing, while Guentzel would remain in the game and be apart of the following powerplay. Losing Guentzel would be a significant loss for the Penguins heading into their series against the New York Rangers.
