Brad Marchand overcomes heartbreaking loss over the weekend
Heading into Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Marchand hadn't scored in 8 games. Marchand would eventually score the overtime winner against the Maple Leafs before recording a natural hat trick last night. Scoring 4 goals in 2 games is an extremely impressive feat, but it becomes even more impressive when you learn what Marchand has been going through.
Less than 24 hours before the game against the Maple Leafs, Marchand and his family suffered a tough loss. According to Amalie Benjamin, on Friday night Brad's grandmother Frances passed away.
Brad Marchand's grandmother, Frances O'Leary, passed away on Friday evening. It's been an emotional weekend for the Bruins captain.
While no one would have faulted Marchand if he'd opted to not play, the Bruins captain overcame, like he always does. Marchand continues to prove why he was named the newest captain of the Bruins, but he also proves that things outside the game can truly impact what happens on the ice.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Marchand Family during this tough time.
