Brandon Hagel scores one of the most controversial goals you'll see, but referees call it back
The Tampa Bay Lightning have developed a reputation for playing as close to the edge as humanly possible. They've exploited salary cap loopholes and Jon Cooper is notorious for playing referees. Tonight though Brandon Hagel made an attempt at one of the most controversial plays you'll see all year.
With the puck resting on Igor Shesterkin's pads, Hagel reaches down and picks up the puck and throws it to the ice. The puck bounces off a skate of a Rangers player and trickles into the net. The referees initially ruled this a good goal, but after review they reversed the call.
The Lightning attempted to argue the call but to no avail.
