As the Tampa Bay Lightning become further removed from their consecutive Stanley Cup victories, the team is clearly interested in making roster changes, now including a trade of the veteran fourth liner, Corey Perry.
Perry, now 38 years old, is in the final year of a contract that pays him only $1M this season. His contract included a no trade clause, which Perry waived to join the rebuilding Blackhawks, now including Connor Bedard.
As a veteran in this league, Perry now provides a diminished yet valuable version of his prime playing days. A veteran presence in the locker room, a player with net-front finishing ability, and the willingness to protect his teammates, something that will be valuable to the Blackhawks and Bedard.
