Since leaving the San Jose Sharks, Joe Thornton has played for both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. Even at 43-years-old, Thornton continues to chase that elusive Stanley Cup. Now it appears the veteran could be a fit on a 1-year contract with a very surprising team.

Brad Treliving has had a very eventful off-season, first losing both Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau, only to replace them with Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar. Now it appears the Flames could be in search of some veteran leadership.

Enter Joe Thornton.

While Thornton has yet to reveal his intentions to play next season, he was told last week by the Panthers they had no intention in having him return. Now Thornton pivots looking for another team to possibly chase his dream with.

It is possible that Thornton could accept a professional tryout to see if there is a fit with the Flames, but at this point in his career his options are definitely limited.
