The National Hockey League Player's Association was formed by Ted Lindsay and Doug Harvey in 1957. The Player's Association was formed after the NHL refused to release financial information to the players for the Player's pension plans. Since then the NHLPA has focused on trying to create a fair environment for the players.

But now it appears the NHLPA is on the wrong end of a lawsuit from former NHLPA consultant Richard Rodier. According to Rick Westhead the lawsuit is in the value of $100,000,000.

Former NHLPA consultant Richard Rodier has filed a $100M lawsuit against his former employer, alleging it misused his confidential info to pursue claims that NHL teams underreported revenue, which allowed them to pay players less money.

Richard Rodier, who once worked with Jim Balsillie to try and buy an NHL team, alleges in a new lawsuit that NHLPA officials inappropriately used confidential information he provided to the union.

If Rodier is able to prove his case they could ultimately be a very problematic situation for the Players Association. As details become available it will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
