Breaking News - Toronto Maple Leafs place player on waivers to terminate his contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been up against the salary cap for years, but this season the Maple Leafs also find themselves tight against the contract limit. The Maple Leafs have been operating all season with all 50 contract slots in use. Today though it appears the Maple Leafs have taken a step to clear one of those contracts.
The Maple Leafs drafted Axel Rindell in the 6th round, 177th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Rindell transitioned to North America this season after spending the last 3 years in the SM-liiga. This season Rindell transitioned to the ECHL where he played 5 games scoring 2 goals and 2 assists. Rindell then was promoted to the AHL where he played 6 games.
Today though Rindell and the Maple Leafs have come to an agreement on his potential release.
The #leafs have placed Axel Rindell on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
This move will drop the Maple Leafs down 49 contracts and open up some options for the team to make some additional moves.
