The Buffalo Sabres made it official when they re-signed Craig Anderson to a one-year, $1.5 million contract on Thursday. The 2022-2023 season will be his 20th in the NHL.

Anderson posted a 17-12-2 with an .897 save percentage in 31 starts with the Sabres this past season. He joined the team last summer on a one-year, $750,000 contract.

"He gave us a chance to win when he was in the net,"
Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams told WGR 550 earlier this week.
"He played well, and he also gave our team confidence. When you look at our young D corps, just that kind of mentorship that he showed I think really went a long way for some of our defensemen."

The Sabres had a team save percentage of .899 this past season with Anderson and journeyman netminder Dustin Tokarski receiving most of the starts.

At 41 years old it wouldn't be fair for Sabres management to rely on him to play 40-50 games. Buffalo still needs to find a 1A option to help relive the pressure from the veteran goalie.

If the Sabre fans have any hope of ending their current ten year playoff drought they team will need better goaltending next season.
