Calgary Flames provide update after Chris Tanev undergoes brain and head scans
While embellishing has become a bit of a trend in the NHL, one player who never embellishes is Chris Tanev. Tanev is a throwback to the old school, a defender who has made his career by getting in front of as many pucks as possible. Stylistically there likely isn't a better shot blocker in the entire NHL.
This season alone Tanev has 55 blocks in just 25 games. Those blocks come at a price though and Monday night against the Montreal Canadiens Tanev paid a significant price.
With the Calgary Flames on a 5 on 3 penalty kill, Tanev got into the shooting lane as he so often has. As a pass came across to Nick Suzuki, Tanev turned his head and fearlessly got into the shooting lane. Unfortunately, the puck off of Suzuki's stick came up and struck Tanev in the head.
Tanev immediately dropped to the ice, seemingly unconscious.
Tanev was assisted to the locker room by teammates and would be taken to a local medical facility for monitoring. Tanev was cleared to travel with the team and upon returning to Calgary he underwent additional tests. Luckily for Tanev and the Flames all of those tests came back clean and Tanev will hopefully be able to return to the ice soon.
After a scary scene the other night for Chris Tanev and the #Flames it sounds like all his scans are good and he is progressing well. Hopes to be back on the ice with his teammates soon.
