At some point today the Carolina Hurricanes are expected to acquire Tony DeAngelo from the Philadelphia Flyers. The trade has reportedly been in the works since the NHL Draft, but the league refused to approve a trade until a full year had elapsed. Once this trade goes through the Hurricanes will have too many right handed defensemen.

This is a problem not many teams have and will lead to an eventual trade. At the draft it had previously been reported that the Hurricanes were aggressively shopping Brett Pesce as the two parties were far apart on a contract extension. Pesce becomes a free agent next summer and appears to not fit into the Canes long-term plans.

Today Brett's father Brian took to Twitter to share this emotional message about his time in Carolina.

Just want to say thank you to all my CANIAC friends for support of Brett, means so much to me. Over the years never imagined I could connect and LOVE the fans of Raleigh as I do; what an incredibly passionate base you are. Whatever happens I love you all!

The Canes were clear earlier this summer, if a deal isn't done, they'll have to find a way to recoup some assets. It feels based off this message that Brian has at least some information that would lead him to believe the team is close to a deal at this time.
