Today the Carolina Hurricanes and General Manager, Don Waddell announced that they have officially re-signed their 2017, 1st round draft pick, Martin Necas. Necas has already played 203 NHL games with the Hurricanes, his promotion to the big club happened in 2019-2020.

Necas' most recent linemates in the playoffs were, Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov on the 1st line. Necas had a total of 5 points in the playoffs. It seems that Rod Brind'Amour may have bigger plans for the winger, as he stepped up during the absence of Teuvo Teravainen, who missed time due to injury.

In five years, Necas has played 203 NHL games and put up 119 points total.

Waddell secured the Hurricanes' future with this signing with a decent term, at $2.5 Million AAV for 2022-2023 and $3.5 Million for 2023-2024.

"Martin is a dynamic young playmaker," said Waddell. "He has an elite combination of speed and skill and we think he'll only continue to improve."

Last month the Hurricanes attempted to trade Necas as the key centerpiece of a potential deal to acquire Matthew Tkachuk. Rumors swirled that Necas was upset about his name being included in rumors, but it seems both the team and the play have gotten past that, with the announcement of today's deal.
