Brent Wallace, a fellow media personality and close friend of Shawn Simpson, shared a truly devastating story on X today regarding Shawn Simpson's life.

The hockey family was mourning today and suffered a tremendous loss when news broke earlier that a former player, scout, and television analyst, Shawn Simpson, died in a sad, unfortunate incident.

Shawn even admitted himself on his social media X account back in November that he received help from friends as he was struggling in his personal life.

His good friend and fellow well-known personality in the press, Brent Wallace, shared a heart-melting report about all of Shawn's struggles dealing with hardships in his life.

August 3rd. 9:34 pm, Shawn texts me. «Hey, I'm in some real trouble.» After a few texts I find out where he is. I quickly call Ian Mendes. Without hesitation Ian and our friend Rich, who works at the Royal Ottawa agree to help find Simmer. When we finally track him down, he's appreciative that we're there. It's emotional. There are tears. While Ian stays with Simmer, Rich and I are on the phone, calling mental health professionals, doing everything we can to get him help.
That's when I look back and see Ian and Simmer and I'm crushed. Ian is holding Shawn's hand, telling him we will take care of him. This is a picture of what true friendship looks like.
Eventually, Ian and Rich take Shawn to the hospital and get him admitted. That night, as I drove home, I was an emotional mess. It was one of the hardest days of my life. What if we hadn't responded?
For the next three days, we didn't leave his side. Ian stayed with Shawn through the night. Rich came for a few hours. I sat with him during the day. We got him into a treatment program, and things started looking up. Simmer was doing great. We talked or texted every day. Yorkie, Rich, and I visited him and helped to celebrate his birthday. He had an aftercare plan, medication, and support. We hired him full-time on the podcast. We truly believed this was the help he needed.
Ian, Rich, and I had a group chat dedicated to helping Shawn, making sure we were always there for him and for each other.
But today, I feel like I let a teammate down.
People always say, "Make sure you check in." We did. But it wasn't enough. Shawn, I'm sorry.
